Contemporary
creation of Aubusson tapestries

| In
1965, JM. LARTIGAUD visited Aubusson. Having a passion for wall art, he
entered the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs the following
year, and started a collaboration with the different manufactures which
would weave his works. In his cartoons seeking inspiration in nature, he brings about some revival of the tradition of leaf-works in Aubusson tapestry. Through colours and patterns marking a break with the usual formal vocabulary, he attempts to operate a unique synthesis between past and present in Aubusson. At the same time, Lartigaud pursues a personal work made of paintings and tapestries, while continuing to experiment on various mediums and materials. His works have been acquired by public and private collections in a number of countries. |

| The first step in the working up of a tapestry consists in creating a model. This model is transformed into a cartoon having the actual dimensions of the future tapestry. All the forms are then numbered, each number corresponding to a colour of wool. Other instructions appear in order to guide the lissier during the weaving process. | |||||||
